Good inTENtions stands for the TEN dollars each family agrees to contribute each month to collectively do something good. Once a month, one family will be given the total funds collected to donate as they choose. We ask that you work with your children to decide how best to utilize the funds. Here are a few of the ground rules we decided upon as a group:
1. Every family who agrees to participate is in it for the duration of months it takes for each family's name to be drawn once. We all agree to make sure the necessary family gets our $10 each month.
2. Each month, one family's name will be randomly selected to receive the total funds to use as they see fit. Since we all have unique feelings about charities that are important to us, we figured it would allow each family to do something meaningful for their household.
3. The money can be divided up or given to one charity. All collected money must be used, even if it means dropping the change into local collection bins around stores and restaurants. Every penny counts!
4. MOST IMPORTANTLY, our children should be VERY involved in the process of selecting the charity/charities and physically delivering the goods/services/funds to that charity. As parents, we can all write a check to assist others, but we want our kids to get first hand experience in doing something good for others.
5. Whichever family is chosen to receive that month's money will host the next gathering on a day and time that works best for them. At that gathering, the family should describe their experience, how and why they selected the charity/charities they did, and how it felt doing their good deed. Ideally, the children will be doing a lot of the talking and sharing of information, but will be assisted by the parents. At the end of the meeting, the next month's family will be selected.
Let's get started! Can't wait to see what good things come about from the families on Whisperhill Court!
